Diversity is one of the great hallmarks of the City of Los Angeles. Our city has long been recognized as one of the creative and cultural capitals of the world.
Throughout its history, Los Angeles has been enriched by a vibrant Italian and Italian American population which infused the city with an extraordinary heritage. Today, we proudly remember the Italian presence not only in the City’s past, but in our region’s world renowned art museums and institutions.
Los Angeles is home to both classical masterpieces from the ancient world and those of old and contemporary Italian masters. Roman marble statues, the landscapes of Canaletto and Simon Rodia’s Watts Towers are all part of the city’s cultural fabric.
I commend the Italian Cultural Institute for bringing together these local Italian treasures in one guide for Angelenos and the whole world to enjoy.
Very truly yours,
Antonio R. Villaraigosa
